Mayra Simons is a community leader and organizer living in Boyle Heights. Originally from Sinaloa, Mexico, Simons is dedicated to the efforts of empowering Spanish-speaking migrant families in her neighborhood with information and resources related to health-care and housing. In her interview with Margarita, she talks about her experiences with racism and xenophobia while seeking out financial and medical assistance, and the importance of the community organization she's been involved with for over 8 years.
What is your favorite thing about organizing within your community?
