Interview with Skarleth Herrera, the Youth Coordinator & Honorable Discharge Navigator at the Boyle Heights Arts Conservatory. At the BHAC, Skarleth's role is dedicated to training incoming local youth on developing technical job skills that are essential and transferable for going into the job market. The Boyle Heights Arts Conservatory is a community radio gem consisting of local DJs, artists, and other creative storytellers.
Do you think the Boyle Heights Arts Conservatory accurately captures the music that characterizes the neighborhood of Boyle Heights?
"I feel like a lot of the youth here and the DJs that come into the space do a pretty good job at trying to reflect the artists that are here from our communities. Especially with the sessions program that we have, it centers youth ages 14 to 24, helps them create music and learn the actual background to producing your own music, owning your music, and all the technical stuff...they do a pretty good job at bringing to light that there's so much talent in our communities."
