The neighborhood of Boyle Heights holds a multitude of cultures and traditions. Throughout the year, celebrations such as Day of the Dead (November 1st & 2nd), the Santa Cecilia Mariachi Festival, and Danza ceremonies fill the neighborhood streets with the beautiful sounds of mariachi trumpets and guitarrones, and the sight of marigolds and personal altars commemorating ancestors and lost loved ones. Despite being faced with the pandemic, community members, cultural workers and practitioners still managed to create spaces of hope, joy and celebration by adapting their traditions that involved larger gatherings.
